“You can’t not communicate”
These words by the Austrian-American philosopher and communication scientist Paul Watzlawick describe the importance of communication. It is a central component of every company and the voice plays a key role here. As telephone calls and online conferences with our customers are part of our daily routine, the operations team at CONENGA Group has developed this skill in an in-house workshop with a voice expert.
The seminar had several objectives right from the start: getting to know our own voice, developing and testing a pleasant greeting for customers and, last but not least, writing and speaking an elevator pitch that explains what we do as briefly and accurately as possible. Our seminar was led by Barbara Walcher, an excellent voice and speech coach who helps people achieve the best possible vocal and body language expression with her company Stimmkultur.
Do you know your indifference level?
There were often moments when you were surprised by yourself, as you were able to find out things and characteristics of your own voice that you would never have known without this seminar. For example, do you know your indifference pitch? This is your natural pitch, which does not tire you out even when speaking for long periods of time and also puts the least strain on your vocal chords. Finding this pitch and making use of it contributes significantly to maintaining your voice.
It is important and healthy to like your voice, and so Ms. Walcher professionally introduced us to our own voice and pitch with varied and entertaining exercises.
Elevator Pitch
In the second half of the day, we got down to business – we also wanted to develop an “elevator pitch” as part of the workshop. What exactly is that? Imagine the following situation: You share a short time in an elevator with another person, and in this time span you are supposed to explain the company you work for and its USP. Ideally, the other person will know all about the company after this short time.
Our approach
To formulate our elevator pitch, we first worked together to develop key words and characteristics that are associated with CONENGA Group. These included technology experts, sustainable optimization and innovation partners. Equipped with these terms, everyone worked on an elevator pitch, which was then presented – perfectly spoken – and finally presented to the entire team in a joint final version at the next weekly meeting.
The resulting elevator pitch has since adorned the “HOME” page of our website – we look forward to your feedback on how you like it.
Conclusion
The workshop was characterized by a lot of input, a high level of commitment on both sides and occasional promises, which also lifted the good mood. The operations team at CONENGA Group took a lot from this workshop and communicated it to their colleagues.
To avoid self-praise at this point, we would like to invite you to contact us by telephone with your concerns so that you can experience this first-hand.
